Musella winery exemplifies the commitment to biodynamic practices, producing lighter, more elegant wines that focus on territoriality rather than fruit concentration. As part of a shift in winemaking philosophy, Musella has moved away from the overly concentrated style of wines like Amarone, which gained popularity in the 80s and 90s, often criticized for becoming cloying and predictable.
Produced using biodynamic methods, Amarone Riserva 2018 is crafted from hand-picked grapes that undergo a traditional drying process. The grapes lose 35% of their original weight, concentrating the sugars and tannins. After a long maceration, the wine matures for 12 months in French oak, and 8 months in the bottle. Musella’s commitment emphasizes elegance over concentration, resulting in a balanced, territorial wine that challenges traditional Amarone stereotypes.

Musella

Cradled in the gentle hills east of Verona, Musella is a grand biodynamic estate born of vision and renewal. It all began in the mid-1990s when Emilio Pasqua Di Bisceglie, alongside his daughter Maddalena, set roots in a lovingly restored 16th-century courtyard. Across 400 hectares of forest, olive trees, vineyards, they tend native Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, Croatina, Garganega, and other varieties at altitudes of 650–700 meters. From this living, breathing landscape they craft wines—Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone—that ferment with native yeasts and mature in vessels of cement, oak, and tonneau.
