Cantina Girlan, founded in 1923, is a renowned cooperative winery located in Alto Adige. Today it brings together small growers working hillside vineyards on morainic and volcanic soils shaped by Alpine light and wide temperature shifts.
“Alte Reben” refers to old vines planted on warm, gravelly slopes that give the grape unusual depth. Compared to the lighter Schiava, Gschleier carries more presence and intensity. It remains elegant and lifted, but with darker fruit tones, subtle spice, and a smooth texture.

Cantina Girlan

Founded in 1923 by 23 winegrowers, Cantina Girlan is today a community of over 200 families cultivating around 220 hectares of vineyards across the rolling hills of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina in Alto Adige, at altitudes between 250 and 550 meters above sea level. Under the guidance of winemaker Gerhard Kofler, the growers work parcel by parcel, often on small plots with diverse soils of moraine, clay, and limestone. Farming is meticulous, harvests are done by hand, and fermentations rely on precision and respect for each grape’s character. The wines of Girlan—ranging from Schiava to Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero—carry both the heritage of nearly a century and the vibrant spirit of a cooperative where many voices unite in a single identity.
