Grape
Catalanesca

Exclusively born as a collaboration between Roscioli Wine Club and Cantine Olivella, InSumma is a unique wine made from the rare Catalanesca grape, grown at 700m above sea level on the volcanic soils of Mount Vesuvius. It all began from Ciro taking us to a local archeological dig site near him, and possibly where Augustus died, which was perfectly preserved by 2 erutions and housed a 3rd century winery with countless amphorae found, provoking us to ask Ciro to make us a private wine in amphora. The result is stunning. The wine ages for 1 year in amphora and comes from a biodynamically farmed vineyard of 70+ years, and ages similar to Riesling. Nothing is added in, nothing is removed, and yet this natural minerally and volcanic wine exhibits no off-putting aromas. The video is a must-see.

Cantine Olivella

On the slopes of Monte Somma, beneath the rumbling shadow of Vesuvius, Andrea Cozzolino, alongside Ciro Giordano and Domenico Ceriello, breathed new life into ancient, ungrafted vineyards first tended by their families decades ago. Working between 900 and 2,400 feet above sea level on sandy, volcanic soils rich with history, they cultivate rare native grapes—Catalanesca, Piedirosso, Caprettone, and Olivella—with gentle organic care and hand-harvested devotion. Old varieties are fermented on indigenous yeasts, aged in steel or clay amphorae, each bottle is a tribute to time, land, and the pulse of Vesuvius, woven into wine and echoing centuries of tradition.
