Chiaromonte - Primitivo Contrada Barbatto 2019

Chiaromonte is one of the most highly regarded Primitivo producers in Puglia, crafting wines that express both the power and finesse of the region’s terroir. The Contrada Barbatto vineyard is located in the Gioia del Colle appellation, an area that produces a more structured and mineral-driven style of Primitivo compared to the jammy, fruit-forward wines of the Salento peninsula.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity and aged in neutral oak barrels, allowing for greater integration of flavors without excessive wood influence. 

On the nose, this Primitivo has aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, licorice, and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is rich and velvety, with ripe tannins and a slightly smoky finish. Despite its bold fruit profile, the natural acidity and minerality from the terroir keep the wine fresh and balanced. This is a serious and age-worthy Primitivo, demonstrating the variety’s ability to move beyond its reputation for simple, fruit-driven wines.
