Primitivo

Chiaromonte is one of Puglia’s premier producers of Primitivo, crafting wines that balance the grape’s natural power with structure and refinement. Based in the Gioia del Colle appellation, this estate distinguishes itself from the more commonly known Salento Primitivo by producing wines with greater elegance, acidity, and longevity, thanks to the high-altitude vineyards and limestone-rich soils.
Chiaromonte’s old-vine Primitivo - some over 80 years old - is harvested manually and undergoes long maceration, followed by aging in French oak barrels for at least 24 months.
On the nose, the wine is intensely aromatic, with notes of black cherry, and warm spices, complemented by hints of tobacco. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, yet there’s a backbone of acidity and minerality that keeps it vibrant.
This Primitivo Riserva is a serious, age-worthy expression of the grape, perfect for those looking for depth and complexity beyond the typical ripe, fruit-driven styles. As it ages, it will soften and gain more tertiary notes, evolving into something even more refined and layered.

Tenute Chiaromonte

On the hills of Acquaviva delle Fonti (Puglia), at nearly 400 meters above sea level, Nicola Chiaromonte tends his old-vine Primitivo with devotion and restraint. Many of the vines are over a century old, their roots plunging deep into rocky, red soils, yielding only a few clusters each season. Farming is carried out organically, every harvest done by hand with the care of tradition. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous and aging takes place in large oak and steel, letting the grape’s power remain pure. The wines are dark, intense, yet finely balanced—expressions of Puglia’s sun and stone.
