Seruci Miniera by Cantina Enrico Esu is a genuine expression of the native Carignano grape, grown in the mineral-rich soils of Carbonia, a village created for the workers of the coal mines of the area.

Enrico Esu’s father was a miner and a winemaker. Despite the hard work in the mine, in the little free time he devoted himself to the vineyard, and in 1958 he planted the first free-standing vines of Carignano. In the past in this area of Sardinia, when you wanted to plant a new vineyard, you asked some friends or relatives to offer their own vines. The "uncle Deidda" vineyard dating back to the early 1900s has generated the estate's current viticultural heritage. The vineyards of that time were not monovarietal, but were made up of a prevalent variety, in this case Carignano and other indigenous varieties such as Monica, Bovale and Carenisca. The vines are planted with saplings and, thanks to the sandy composition of the soil and the particular breeding techniques, they can easily exceed 50 years of age.
The wine is aged in oak barrels to add structure and depth, while maintaining the purity of the fruit. It offers aromas of dark fruit, herbs, and a subtle touch of spice, with a full-bodied palate and firm tannins.

Enrico Esu

In the far south of Sardinia, where sandy soils stretch toward the sea, Enrico Esu tends ungrafted Carignano vines planted by his father Silvio in 1958. Silvio was both miner and farmer, and the name of the wines—Nerominiera and Seruci—carry the memory of that double life: the darkness of coal and the brightness of the vineyard. Today Enrico continues that legacy with organic farming and hand harvesting. No oak masks the fruit— the saltiness of the sea and wild herbs of Sulcis are the main characters.
