It’s hard to find 2 such sincere winemakers anymore, who aren’t just out to try to sell you something.  Anna and Ludovico, both in their 80s, are anything but this case.  Their wines are as genuine and sincere as they are. The Brunello di Montalcino by Poggiarellino is a testament to the winery’s dedication to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Montalcino. The Sangiovese grapes are cultivated in calcareous clay soils, which contribute to the wine’s structure and complexity. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, followed by aging in large oak barrels for 36 months. This meticulous process results in a wine with firm tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, elegant finish. The wines from 2016 are powerful yet balanced, with intense aromatics and a harmonious structure. They exhibit concentrated fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and well-integrated tannins. This vintage has excellent aging potential, promising to develop beautifully over the years.

Poggiarellino

Poggiarellino is a small family-run estate near Montalcino, where Gianni and Anna Fanti - the loveliest couple in their 80s - tend to just a few hectares of Sangiovese vines. The farm has been in the family since the 1950s, but their first Brunello was only bottled in 1996. Their vineyard work is personal and hands-on, and their wines carry a purity and clarity that feel like a revival of a slower, more thoughtful Brunello tradition. At Poggiarellino, there is no desire to compete by volume or flash—each vintage is shaped quietly, with respect for the land and respect for time.
