Simone Scaletta - Dolcetto d'Alba Viglioni
Simone Scaletta - Dolcetto d'Alba Viglioni
While Simone has two decades of experience in Piemonte, one might still call him a ‘newcomer’ to Barolo. Hailing from Turin makes him a bit of an outsider even after all these years, but he’s making emotionally provoc- ative expressions of Barolo that stand up to any of his neighbors. Inspired by his grandfather’s winemaking in an area situated just southeast of Asti, Simone took a wine course in the early 2000’s while working his previous career in Print Production. To transition his life to that of a singularly-focused winemaker, he began his journey in 2002 with the purchase of an old farmhouse in Monforte d’Alba. Over the next 8 years, Simone restored the farmhouse, built a cellar, and planted Nebbiolo while living in a camper. Even though his choices were once questioned by locals, when you taste Simone’s wines you’ll be very glad of the efforts he made to join the ranks of the illustrious farmers of Monforte.
