Vermentino Nero

Formaalta is a red wine made from Vermentino Nero, a rare and historic grape variety from the Lunigiana area, where Liguria and Tuscany meet. Terenzuola has played a key role in recovering and giving new dignity to this forgotten grape, working closely with the territory and its traditions. The wine reflects a mountain-and-sea landscape, shaped by altitude, stone soils, and strong winds, and tells the story of a winery deeply committed to preserving local identity through patient, thoughtful farming.

Terenzuola is led by Ivan Giuliani, who has spent decades working in Lunigiana and the Colli di Luni, a border area between Liguria and Tuscany where viticulture has always been fragmented and physically demanding. Giuliani’s work has focused on recovering abandoned vineyards and reconnecting winegrowing with a landscape shaped by mountains, sea winds, and steep terraces. The project grew out of direct, hands-on farming rather than a predefined winery model, expanding gradually as vineyards were brought back into cultivation. Terenzuola reflects a form of agriculture built through persistence, local knowledge, and a long-term commitment to keeping this marginal territory alive.
