Calcabrina is a family-run farm located near Montefalco (Umbria), active in viticulture and the production of goat cheeses. Diego Calcabrina is the essence of this small farm together with his father Angelo. The business changed from "farm" to Farm in the early 2000s, and since 2005 to organic and biodynamic management. The animals were included in the project precisely to have natural fertilizers in the Sagrantino vineyards. Natural winemaking, manual harvest, spontaneous fermentations, no sulfur dioxide added, in short: a genuine wine that is a child of respect for nature and the territory. And if you get a chance to meet Diego, you’ll get a stand up comedy show for free.

A bold and structured dry red wine made from the Sagrantino grape, exhibiting rich fruit flavors and refined tannins, aged in oak.

Calcabrina

Diego lives in the hills of Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria. After finishing his university studies, he quickly understood that a life behind a desk wasn’t for him. He left behind his degree in accounting and returned to the land—working alongside his father, Angelo, to build something that felt real.
The farm started with goats and a few old vines, and has grown slowly, without ever losing its scale or spirit. They work just a couple of hectares, organically and with biodynamic principles, using natural compost from their animals and doing everything by hand. In the cellar, Diego keeps things as simple as possible: spontaneous fermentations, no filtration, no added sulfites. Each wine is made in tiny quantities and reflects a very personal approach—intuitive, physical, and deeply tied to the land he chose to come back to.
