Located in Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol, Pfannenstielhof is a historic estate managed by the Pfeifer family since 1816. Their St. Magdalener 2023 is a classic expression of the region’s traditional blend: 95% Schiava (Vernatsch) with a touch of Lagrein. The grapes are cultivated under the pergola system on morainic soils rich in quartz and dolomite. Co-fermentation ensures harmony between the varieties, and the wine is aged briefly in stainless steel to preserve freshness. This is a light, fruit-forward red with aromas of wild berries and herbs, and a soft, elegant palate marked by freshness and a gentle mineral backbone.

Hidden within vineyards on the eastern edge of Bozen, Pfannenstielhof is the soul of Alto Adige’s red wine tradition. The Pfeifer family—now in its seventh generation under Johannes with Margareth, Anna, and Veronika—tends vines of Vernatsch and Lagrein weaving through pergola-trained rows. With nature at the helm, every cut, defoliation, and hand-harvest is deliberate, grounded in the belief that the land’s uniqueness should breathe through each bottle.
